Good Deals

Milk
Yaeka and I went on a long quest for a new pan today and while we ended up not actually buying a pan we got a damn good deal on milk. While walking around Fred Meyer’s, I noticed this guy walking around with two half-gallons of milk and said, man, that’s weird, there must be a good deal on milk. Well you know what? There was a really good deal on milk! I know it is kind of sad that I find this worthy of blogging about, but it was buy one get one free on half-gallons and they didn’t expire until like October 13th. That’s a really good deal!

Coast to Coast AM
While technically free for anyone with an AM radio, I’ve been thinking about getting their streamlink service for a while and I got it tonight because it was such a good deal. Only $6.95 a month and you get access to downloadable MP3 files of the past 30 days worth of shows and can stream the shows since July of 2002. Along with that there is a full show overview with each set of downloads/streams with links and things so you know what it is all about. I’ve been a big fan of Coast to Coast AM since I accidentally discovered it many years ago during my long cross-country road trips. I remember listening to Art Bell’s last show as the full-time host on my way back to Colgate following a winter break and also introducing Flynn to it on our way back from Toronto with Marty. A lot of the callers are kind of crazy, but it’s really entertaining to hear people call in and ask Nader about using the Air Force to protect us from UFOs.

Seattle is number one…

Saturday, September 18th, 2004

So I haven’t adjusted any of my default internet explorer settings since I installed XP on my system because I don’t use it, but I opened it today and was greeted by an image of the Seattle skyline followed by “Most Overprice Places in 2004″. Apparently I live in the most overpriced metro areas in the US. Full article here.

Kind of Like Bad Religion

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

I thought this would be interesting to share. Not interesting enough to be a news item on The PhiLL(er), but definitely worth sharing. It’s Kind of Like Spitting doing covers of a few Bad Religion songs. Check it here: www.redderrecords.com.

Back in Time and Going to Boston

Sunday, September 5th, 2004

No, I’m not going to Boston any time soon, but while I was backing up all of my precious little files in preparation of an update to Windows XP, I found a little gem.

Back in the fall of 1999, I got an invite to some Christmas related party at this radio promo company in Boston. It wasn’t a very practical idea to go, but I passed the idea on to Flynn who we all now know seems to have a love affair with Boston and we were on our way.

Here’s Flynn with his “Oh my god I can’t believe we’re going to boston totally last minute like this!” face captured as I picked him up in the Creative Arts House parking lot.

I think it was at this poinst that he mentioned that Micah would be joining us on this adventure. The details escape me, but I believe we took a quick cruise through Cutten to pick Micah up and then we were off on 12B in our very cozy truck.

Micah shows off his mad pull up skills in order to avoid his soul being taken by my evil camera while the pre-gym Flynn struggles to dangle.

So the party we went to pretty much sucked. The guy that invited us wasn’t a very good host at all and Flynn got really bored and started acting rather childish yelling out all the windows and shit. We took off after maybe an hour of hanging around and decided to explore the city. Highlight of the trip included walking down the center median of Mass Ave only to find out that it suddenly disappears at which point we were walking down the center double yellow line of Mass Ave. Very dangerous and not recommended. We also made sure to walk on the grass at Harvard. Take that!

After our exploration we got tired and with no money decided to park at a rest area and sleep. I had brought up this little fold out sofa from my last trip home and never took the time to unload it out of my truck. This proved to add a little comfort to the cold cold night spent by Flynn and Micah locked in the back of the truck. No, I wasn’t planning on abducting them or anything, but earlier one of them found a note written on a stall of the men’s bathroom that read something like “Out of money and gas. Will do anything for help.” followed by the date which turned out to be the day before. They totally thought they were going to get butt raped or something so I locked up the back. Flynn was the last to wake up and also slept most of the way home in the back as well.

After waking Flynn up, we ventured back to Cambridge and found some free parking in front of this super ghetto building. I think we actually took this picture to capture the fact that there are these doors on the second and third floor with no stairs.

Here’s a picture as we went to drive under the Sheraton. Very scary!

Here’s a bunch of buildings:

Kingdom of Loathing

Wednesday, September 1st, 2004

I found out about this online RPG game through the Pinback mailing list. There was a discussion about the etymology of “Abaddon” which is the title of the new album. Anyway, somewhere in there were references to metal bands and video games so this came out of the mix.

It’s not all about dungeons and dragons and shit like that, in fact, it’s pretty damn funny. My character is a “Disco Bandit” and I attack people with my feet of fury as well as my sweet ninja sword. If you want to check it out, it’s at: Kingdom of Loathing.
